Passengers flying from the UAE to Delhi now have access to a more streamlined immigration process, thanks to the introduction of the E-Arrival Card system, effective from 1 October. This new initiative allows travellers to complete their arrival details online before their trip, eliminating the need for traditional paper forms.
Cutting Edge for Travellers
The E-Arrival Card introduces a digital approach to the arrival process, replacing manual paperwork with a secure online platform. Travellers can submit their details up to three days before landing in Delhi using any of the following platforms:
- Bureau of Immigration website (boi.gov.in)
- Indian Visa website (indianvisaonline.gov.in)
- Su-Swagatam mobile app
- Delhi airport website (newdelhiairport.in)
With this system in place, passengers can expect faster processing times upon arrival, as manual data entry and form submission will no longer be required.
A Big Step for a Busy Route
The UAE–India air route is among the busiest in the world, with a high volume of travellers flying for work, family visits, and tourism. The new system is expected to be particularly beneficial during peak travel periods, such as school holidays, Eid breaks, and festive seasons, when immigration queues at Delhi airport are typically at their longest.
Aligning with Global Standards
India’s move to implement the E-Arrival Card aligns Delhi airport with international best practices already in place at major hubs like Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, South Korea, and Malaysia. This step reflects a broader trend towards adopting digital solutions for enhancing passenger experiences.
Applicability and Additional Services
While the E-Arrival Card is designed for foreign nationals, Indian citizens and Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholders have access to a separate programme. The Fast Track Immigration–Trusted Traveller Programme (FTI-TTP), launched in June 2024, already offers expedited immigration services for these groups.
With this modernisation, India is aiming to reduce congestion and improve the traveller experience at one of its busiest entry points. As the system rolls out, it is expected to ease travel for thousands of passengers flying between the UAE and India every day.
